How to Make a House a Home
Pamelynn & John Peternell
“We want people to walk in the front door and instantly feel comfortable,” said Pamelynn Peternell. Her husband, John, agreed adding, “We were looking for a Northwest style of home – less formal, more welcoming. A home where people naturally relaxed when they visited.”
Pamelynn and John worked side by side with Jubilee’s interior designers to create a home that was truly their own. “With this home we started from scratch buying completely new furniture. We didn’t want the home to be like anything we’d ever had before. The furnishings are a combination of Mission and Arts & Craft so we wanted complementary finishes,” said John.
For flooring, they added beautiful Red Oak hardwoods in the great room and dining area and ceramic terrazzo in the entry, breakfast nook and kitchen. In the kitchen, they upgraded the Maple cabinetry and accented the granite countertops with Italian tile backsplashes. “It gives the room a warm and inviting feel,” said Pamelynn.
They also upgraded their kitchen appliance package to include double ovens with a convection/microwave feature and added under-counter lighting. Master bathroom upgrades included ceramic tile throughout, Silestone countertops, and upgraded faucets and sinks. Additional lighting was also upgraded throughout the home as were hardwood doors and molding.
But the real masterpiece is the fireplace they designed for the great room. Wrapped floor-to-ceiling and side-to-side in river rock, it serves as a natural focal point for the home. “People immediately gravitate to the fireplace. It adds to the home’s laidback feel,” said John.
The couple is very happy with the results. “We were able to use the expertise of Jubilee’s interior designers at Jubilee’s on-site Design Center to choose the right interiors for us. When we have guests over, they feel right at home.”
