Living Large at the Jubilee Lodge
Jubilee Lodge, which many call the heart and soul of
the community, as well as its social hub, is currently
undergoing a much anticipated expansion. The bigger,
better and more beautiful lodge will be home to
seemingly countless social and recreational activities.
It’s expanding by more than 7,000 square feet to
accommodate the community’s growing calendar.
Currently, the Lodge features a fitness center,
game room, ballroom, and indoor swimming pool
and hot tub. Residents enjoy everything from
ballroom dancing and bocce to water aerobics
and wine tasting. The Lodge also hosts monthly
special events, such as luaus, birthday potlucks and
holiday celebrations.
With input from Jubilee residents, Jenamar, Jubilee’s
developer, is pursuing an expansion option rather
than building a second facility.
“Homeowners wanted one large gathering spot rather
than two smaller ones,” explained Brett Santhuff
of Belay Architecture, the firm designing the expansion.
“In a focus group, they were asked for input
on the redesign. They expressed a need for a larger
fitness center with more locker rooms and showers
and additional meeting spaces. With our new design,
we’ve doubled the size of the fitness center, reconfigured
the locker rooms and added a large
meeting space that can be divided
into three smaller rooms for
exercise classes, meetings
or interest group gatherings. It can even be set
up theater-style for movie nights.”
Additional administrative offices will be incorporated
into the building, allowing the operation of
Jubilee to be run from the Lodge when the community
is complete in approximately 2010.
While the Lodge is under construction, Santhuff
says that current activities at the Lodge won’t be put
on hold. “We’re building around the Lodge in three
separate areas and as we complete one area, we’ll
begin working on the next.”
In response to residents’ suggestions, Jenamar is
constructing an outdoor tennis park at the site
of the second proposed recreation center. It will
include picnic tables, restrooms and two “sunken”
tennis courts.
“We were thrilled that the residents wanted to play
such a leading role in how the Lodge and the second
recreation center were designed,” noted Laurie
Madland, Executive Director of the Community
Associations. “Their participation at Jubilee goes far
beyond social gatherings or recreational activities.
They’ve made Jubilee much more than just a
community. They’ve created a family.”
