Paved Trail Makes it Easy to Enjoy Nature, Exercise

Hawks Prairie Trail

Nature is your neighbor at Jubilee, where a paved 2-mile trail skirts the community and takes you through trees to a gorgeous Puget Sound beach.

Hawks Prairie Trail has been one of Jubilee’s most popular amenities since the day it opened in October 2006. The private trail is open exclusively to residents of the Jubilee and Edgewater communities.

The trail is mostly flat and travels through a mix of evergreen and deciduous trees. Every day is a palette of colors, from the vibrant hues of fall to the tender green signs of spring. You might even see a deer in the bushes not far off the trail.

Benches every half-mile or so give you a place to rest and enjoy the scenery or visit with friends passing by. A number of residents have said they are living healthier because they routinely walk the trail for exercise and social interaction.

You’ll also want to plan a walk when you have time to stop and read the informational signs along the trail. Learn about the area’s native plants, commercial development, recreational history and the waterfront’s use for dynamite shipping during World War II. Each sign also includes a trail map and facility rules.

Jubilee Beach offers a panoramic view of the Olympic Mountains to the west and Mount Rainier to the east. Anderson Island is directly across from Jubilee Beach. Low tide opens a nice area for walking that stretches about a mile along the waterfront.

It’s a postcard view, not far from your own backyard.
