From lush backyard retreats to exquisite blooms, garden delights drew hundreds to Jubilee last weekend

LACEY, Wash — Jubilee was in full-bloom June 21st, hosting nearly 400 people for the second annual Jubilee Garden Tour and the 54th annual Olympia Rose Society Show. The events were free and open to the public.
Visitors toured 18 beautiful private backyards and chatted with Jubilee homeowners and award-winning gardeners. The tour included “Best Container Garden,” “Best Hardscaping,” Best Low Maintenance Garden,” Best Gardener’s Garden,” “Best Water Feature” and “Best of Show.”
While Jubilee’s community association takes care of front yard landscape maintenance for homeowners, some residents have turned their backyards into lush, inviting retreats. With easy care plantings and use of pavers, stone and concrete, some backyards are surprisingly as low-maintenance as they are beautiful.

“Some of the gardens here are truly extraordinary,” says Christine Bachman, vice president of marketing for Jenamar Communities.
The Jubilee Lodge was the venue for the 54th annual Olympia Rose Society Show. The room was filled with hundreds of breathtaking blooms. Judges evaluated single roses and arrangements in about 50 different classes and gave out dozens of awards. Rose experts were also on site to answer questions.
The rose show is organized by the Olympia Rose Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of and education about roses. It is a local chapter of The American Rose Society, of which most members are home gardeners.
