 A Fresh Perspective on Shopping
Ahhhh! Fresh and organic! With trace reminders of the barnyard. There is no substitute for produce, eggs, flowers and fresh delights bought direct from the growers. And for Jubilee residents, for much of the year, there’s no shortage either. The City of Lacey hosts a traditional summer open market in Huntamer Park at College Street and 7th Avenue from June to August each year. The ten-weekend market features fresh produce, handmade crafts, and nursery items such as small trees, plants and flowers. The market also includes live entertainment and food vendors offering everything from hot dogs to crepes. For added fun, return to the park at dusk with your blanket for the outdoor cinema series. Or, if you’re in Olympia, stop by the Olympia Farmers Market, second in size only to Pike Place Market in Seattle. Almost all of the vendors either grow or make what they sell, including baked goods, flowers, handcrafts, honey, fresh produce, meat and seafood. Explore the many vendors and stay for lunch and live music. The Olympia Farmers Market is open Thursdays through Sundays, April through October and weekends November through December. If you’d like your fresh and organic goodies supplied on a more regular basic, look into the many “subscription farming” offers available from local growers. For a small weekly or monthly subscription, you can count on an abundance of whatever is fresh that week. You can ask for information at either the Lacey or Olympia Farmer’s Market — just inquire about “community supported agriculture.”
